How to Choose the Right Real Estate Agent

Some people think buying a home is as easy as going to an open house and picking a property. However, the process can be quite daunting and confusing. If you want to make sure that you are getting the best price for your money, it’s important that you choose a real estate agent who has your best interests in mind. Discover more here

Here are some steps that will help you find the right agent:

Find advisors who are working in your area

Most realtors are members of local and national associations. The national associations provide information on how to select an agent. If you can’t find an agent from one of the associations, ask a trusted friend, colleague or family member to recommend someone. Another way to find an agent is to visit websites that list agents by location.

View properties in person

Some people decide on a property they like while walking through an open house, but the best way to find out if you like the property is by actually viewing it in person. Unless there is something wrong with the property, or you see something that upsets you, chances are that you will be happy to purchase the property.

Prefer an agent who takes a personal interest in his or her clients

Realtors spend most of their time with buyers and sellers, but they do make exceptions for buying or selling their own homes as well. It helps if your realtor has a personal interest in you and the property so that you feel comfortable discussing the sale with him or her.

Follow up on information

Realtors get calls from people all day long, but most are not interested in a sale. To make sure you receive the information you need, make an appointment with your realtor to discuss what you would like to know about the property. Ask him or her to call you back or set up a meeting if there’s something he or she thinks you need to know about that property.

Price inspections

Some buyers skip price inspections because they think that realtors do this job for them. However, your realtor isn’t responsible for doing price inspections. You need to make sure that you get the right price for the property so that you don’t overpay. If you find something wrong with the property after closing, your realtor isn’t responsible for fixing it.

Consider a buyer’s agency

In some countries, realtors aren’t allowed to work as agents of buyers. In this case, agents work on behalf of sellers instead and are paid by the seller’s agent at the end of a successful sale. No matter what type of agency you choose, make sure that you state your true intentions to the agent.

Don’t forget about paperwork

Realtors can sometimes be too busy to take care of all the paperwork involved in a sale. If you want to make sure the sale goes through without any major delays, make sure you understand the entire process and follow up on any necessary paperwork yourself.
